My name is Woodie McDuffie and I am currently the Vice Mayor of Delray Beach. I am a fourth generation Delray native with my great grandfather having brought his family here in 1933. My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary this March and have raised two wonderful children in Delray. Our daughter is a student at PBCC and our son just returned from four years in the Navy aboard the USS Enterprise making two combat cruises to the Persian Gulf. I served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. I have been a member of the City Commission for the last two years and active in our community for nearly twenty years with youth sports being the venue that I have been passionately dedicated to.
I am running for Mayor because I believe I am the most qualified candidate to lead our city through the many challenges that we face as a result of the worst economy in my generation and the Constitutional revenue restrictions placed on all local government as a result of Amendments 1 and 10. In addition, as a result of a serious injury to our current Mayor, sustained in a fall on April 4, 2008, I have been called upon numerous times to perform her duties while she has been recuperating. I have already done the job and can leverage this experience by being productive from day one.
